Just added a couple more new pieces. Right now working on a couple of zombie illustrations as well as several others.  I think it might be because I'm eagerly anticipating the new season of The Walking Dead. My entry into the Gears of War contest(Game On by R-Tan) made it into the semi-finals. Hope I get first, could use the $10,000 and extra exposure. At least I'm guaranteed $200 and a copy of the game.

Useful Resources

In this section I have listed some useful resources that I use on a daily basis. Please check back occasionally since I will be adding more as I come across them. If you have something that you find useful let me know, leave a comment below in the comments section. I'm always on the lookout for anything that will make my life easier.

Wacom Drawing Tablet
I'm sure I don't have to mention this one but I though I'd put it here anyway. I currently have a Intuous 3 Extra large, and an Intuos 2 Medium that I used to use with my laptop, but now just keep as backup.

Here are some other brands of drawing tablets that I have not used myself but am aware of:

Samsung Ativ Smart PC 700t
This is a Windows tablet which came with Windows 7 but I have updated to Windows 10. I got this to replace my laptop when wanting for work on the go. At the time I was looking at the Surface Pro 1, but got the Ativ refurbished for half the price of the Surface. It's got a 11.6" screen with a Wacom digitizer built in. It comes with a stylus but I use a standard Wacom Pen(UP-801E) instead. I use Photoshop on it. It comes with a detachable keyboard but I never use it or attach it. It's got an i5 1.7 GHz dual core processor and 2gb of ram. Battery lasts about 5 hrs of continuous use. It's also got 1 micro sd slot, a mini hdmi port and one usb 3.0 slot, headphone port, and docking port. I put a matte screen protector on it and the pen feels just like it would on a standard Wacom drawing tablet.
It's the perfect to hold in one hand while having the other hand to hold your pen. I have used it a lot while standing in line for something. I have a product called Hand-e-holder which is stuck on the back of the tablet, which is like a grip for your hand, so you would hold the tablet like you would a paint mixing palette.
Photoshop runs pretty well on it, though sometimes it does get slow depending on the file size. I try to keep my file sizes just below 100mbs. I usually have a over 50 layers.
I"m very happy with this as a on the go workstation. I only real complaints I have about it is I wish the screen was brighter for use in direct sunlight, and that the battery lasted longer, but both of those issues are on all tablets of this type.

Space Navigator from 3dconnexion
Space Navigator by R-TanSpacenavigator-control by R-Tan
This usb device is amazing for navigating 3D enviroments. I use it for DAZ and Sketchup to move 3D models around, but you can also use it to control the camera around your 3D models.

X-Keys from P.I. Engineering
x-keys by R-Tan
This is a programmable usb key pad. You can program, move/ arrange, and label all the buttons. There are several key sizes that you can insert like 1x2 or 2x2 keys. They also have models with a joystick or jog shuttle. It's perfect for keyboard shortcuts. I have 2, one on each side of my drawing tablet. I really can't live without these anymore.
You can find older models pretty cheap on E-bay.

I use Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter for digital painting but here is a list of all the programs that I have tried over the years. Each have there strengths and weaknesses.
I forget which are have free versions and which have only paid versions so the list might be wrong. I think most have at least free demos or trails available. Also not sure which ones are also available on Mac. (favorites *)

Adobe Photoshop*(now subscription based)
Corel Painter*(paid)

PaintTool Sai(free and paid version)
Krita or Krita Gemini*(paid)
Artrage(free and paid versions)
Project Dogwaffle(free and paid versions)
Twisted Brush Open Studio
Manga Studio/Clip Studio Paint Pro*(paid)
Art Weaver
Autodesk Sketchbook Pro*(now subscription based)
Paintstorm Studio*(paid)

Illustrator(paid)vector based
Escape Motions Flame Painter*(paid)-This ones a little different than the others, you'll have to check it out yourselves, to hard to explain but it works like Corel's Particle Shop if your familiar with it.

I don't use 3d Software too much, and don't want to spend too much time trying to learn how to use them. So the handful that I use are pretty easy to pick up and are good sometimes to set up the initial stages for a painting or for rough references for poses or background.

Google Sketchup( paid) ,Google Stetchup Make(free version)
DAZ(free and paid versions)
Scuptris(free)-This one is an interesting program that's made by the people who make Zbrush. It's a good one to get your feet wet in digital scuplting.

Windows Desktop Gadget(free)
Activity Tracker by R-Tan
This is a windows desktop gadget I use to track the time it takes for me to complete an illustration. I usually work on and off on each piece, as well as working on multiple pieces at a time. With this gadget I just create an project name, then clock in and out as I work on that particular illustration. Apparently Microsoft has abandoned the gadgets platform so I have made it available for download here.

Magic Picker Color Wheel for Photoshop(paid)
ColorWheel-MagicPicker20 by R-Tan
Traditional color wheel for Photoshop CS3 and up. I can't live without this extension. I find the normal way to select colors in Photoshop very clunky and un-intuitive to an artist.

3D Perpective Layer for Photoshop CS Extended(free)
Capture by R-Tan
I found this useful free tool for Photoshop CS5 Extended. Someone created a 3D perspective grid on a 3d layer which can be adjusted by moving the camera view. The site is in Korean but google translate can covert most of it into English.

Mystic Thumbs(paid)
MysticThumbs by R-Tan
This is another useful program that runs in the background. It generates a thumbnail for file formats that normally just would have a default icon.  I use it for psd, abr, pdf, and google sketchup models. The fact that I see thumbs for all my photoshop brushes without having to open another program makes it worth the purchase, by itself. It works with a lot of other file formats including a lot of 3-d formats.

With surface pro 2, even when nothing is running the cursor has delay with the pen, its the same with several other windows 8 tablets. So I'm not sure if there are any tablets that don't have the pen lag.
